This year marks an exciting milestone for McDonough Manufacturing—136 years of innovation, quality, and leadership in the sawmill equipment industry! To celebrate, we sat down with Sue Tietz, CEO of McDonough, to reflect on the incredible journey the company has taken over the years. From its beginnings in 1888 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to becoming a globally recognized name, Sue’s personal story is a key part of the company’s history. Her insights offer a unique perspective on what has helped McDonough thrive for over a century.

On the southern tip of Nova Scotia lies the quaint, tight-knit community of Doctor’s Cove, a small fishing village that thrives off the Atlantic Ocean. The majority of the people here are deeply intertwined with the fishing industry—whether they’re on the water, working in fish plants, or managing the transportation of seafood. For many, this industry isn’t just a job; it’s a way of life that flows through the community. Even those not directly involved in fishing benefit from the profession, as it supports local businesses, restaurants, shops, schools, and even hockey arenas.

McDonough recently welcomed Bob Bell to the team, a new sales representative located in the Northeastern US.

Jamie Wilson is our electrician working out of our Mactaquac location, having started his career in residential and commercial settings before enrolling in the electrical program offered at NBCC. Jamie graduated from NBCC with honors and began his practicum at the Mactaquac Generating Station before coming to McDonough to complete his apprenticeship.

Mitch Rush, a welder at McDonough in Eau Claire, certainly lives up to his surname. Originally from Black River Falls, WI, Mitch has always been into outdoor activities like climbing, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc. Climbing is always #1 on his list when it comes to having some free time.

We would like to congratulate Joylyn Hanson Bauer on being named Controller and Sherri Lancour on being named Office Manager for McDonough Manufacturing! Both Joylyn and Sherri work out of our Eau Claire location.

We would like to congratulate Katie Lovely on her recent promotion to Director of Corporate Services!

Our Director of Business Excellence, Monica McKendy (back row, fourth from right), is a Registered Professional Forester who is passionate about increasing participation of women in both the forest industry and manufacturing sectors. Last year she presented on the topic of innovation at the Girls STEM Up conference, a conference aimed at high school and university girls and women. She has recently been involved in the launch of the Women in Wood New Brunswick chapter, a peer group devoted to supporting other women who work “in, with and for the woods.” She wrote an article on WIW for the January issue of the Atlantic Forestry Review, and is going to attend the official launch in Fredericton, NB later this month.

McDonough recently installed a 3-saw OptiFit Edger at New River Hardwoods. The system was purchased to replace a much smaller manual edger that had been in operation in their Tennessee mill.
